AMC Exam for Indian and Pakistani Doctors: Fees in INR/PKR, Exam Centres, Coaching and Free Recalls (2026)

AMC Exam for Indian and Pakistani Doctors: Fees in INR/PKR, Exam Centres, Coaching and Free Recalls (2026)

TL;DR

Indian and Pakistani MBBS graduates without PLAB or USMLE are on the Standard pathway: AMC Part 1 CAT MCQ, then the Clinical exam or a WBA. AMC exam fees: portfolio AUD 642 (about ₹35,000 / PKR 1.2 lakh); MCQ AUD 2,920 (about ₹1.6 lakh / PKR 5.3 lakh) per attempt; Clinical AUD 3,000 in Melbourne only. Exam centres: Pearson VUE in Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Kolkata and more. Pakistan availability is limited and changeable; Dubai is the usual fallback. Coaching centres in India and Pakistan sell structure, not questions. What you need is the blueprint, Australian guidelines, explained questions and timed mocks. AMC Academic is the trusted AMC exam preparation platform for IMGs aspiring to work as doctors in Australia, built by IMGs who passed, many from India and Pakistan: 2,800+ questions with every option explained, seven month-specific mock exams, Astra AI, flashcards, clinical cases and the full IELTS Academic course in one subscription from USD 19 a month. Twenty questions free, no account, at amcacademic.com/study.

If you hold an MBBS from India or Pakistan and haven’t passed PLAB or USMLE, you’re sitting both AMC exams, and the first one will cost you about ₹1.6 lakh or PKR 5.3 lakh per attempt. Candidates from South Asia ask the same four questions: what does it cost in local currency, where can it be sat, is coaching necessary, and does NEET-PG or FCPS preparation count for anything. This guide answers all four.

Which pathway you’re on

The Medical Board of Australia recognises six competent authorities (UK, Ireland, Canada, USA, NZ), and none is Indian or Pakistani. NMC, PMDC, state councils, FMGE, NEET-PG, MD/MS and FCPS are not recognised as equivalent assessments. So: Standard pathway. AMC portfolio, CAT MCQ, then the Clinical or a Workplace Based Assessment, then Ahpra registration. Exceptions: PLAB plus UK Foundation Year 1, or the full USMLE sequence plus two years of US residency, move you to the Competent Authority pathway with no AMC exams. Specialists can apply to an Australian college under the Specialist pathway, but no Indian or Pakistani postgraduate qualification is currently on the Expedited list.

Fees in your currency

All-in, passing first time and travelling once to Melbourne: about ₹6–8 lakh or PKR 20–25 lakh. Each MCQ resit adds AUD 2,920. That number is why free and cheap preparation beats a coaching package.

Where to sit AMC Part 1

India. Pearson VUE runs AMC events in Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Kolkata and a number of other cities. Seats per venue are limited, first come first served, and metro venues fill early; schedule the day the Pearson VUE email arrives. Pakistan. For years there was no venue and candidates sat in Dubai, India or Bangkok. Scheduling at Pearson VUE centres in Pakistan has been reported since 2025 but has been limited and has changed more than once. Confirm on Pearson VUE’s AMC page for your event before planning; Dubai is the standard fallback and easier for a Pakistani passport than India. Dates are the same worldwide: monthly events February to November, scheduling closes about three weeks before the exam week, results at 4:00 pm on the Friday three weeks after.

Coaching centres: what you’re buying

Indian and Pakistani AMC coaching runs from a few thousand rupees for a recall PDF to several lakh for a mentored course. What a good one provides: a schedule, a cohort, accountability, someone to ask. AMC Academic’s Astra gives you the someone-to-ask and the schedule without the classroom fee. What none provides: the questions. They work from the same public blueprint and Australian guidelines you can read yourself. Red flags: a recall bank as the main product, teaching from Indian or Pakistani management, no timed forward- only mocks, promises about which questions will appear.

What NEET-PG and FCPS preparation does and doesn’t give you

It gives you the medicine: pathophysiology, diagnosis, clinical reasoning. It doesn’t give you Australian management, and about half the AMC paper is management. First-line antibiotics (amoxicillin for pneumonia, not a quinolone), screening (iFOBT from 45, HPV test from 25), immunisation (no BCG, and a new single adult pneumococcal vaccine from July 2026), envenomation (pressure-immobilisation, not polyvalent antivenom), and a health system with the GP as gatekeeper. Also the format: adaptive, forward-only, no negative marking, so the NEET-PG habit of leaving questions blank can void your result.

Free first: find your gaps on AMC Recalls

The cheapest way to see where South Asian training leaves you short is to work through a month of AMC Recalls. Every month AMC Recalls rebuilds the topics reported from the latest AMC Part 1 sitting into 100 recall-style questions with full explanations and a recall tip, checked against Australian guidelines. It’s the best free AMC resource there is, and it costs nothing in any currency. Most Indian and Pakistani candidates find they’re strong on diagnosis and weak on management and population health within the first fifty questions. Start at amcrecalls.com/tryout.

AMC Academic: the full preparation, built by IMGs who passed

Once a free month of recalls has shown you where South Asian training leaves you short, the full preparation is the next step. AMC Academic is the trusted AMC exam preparation platform for IMGs aspiring to work as doctors in Australia, and the platform AMC Recalls recommends to every Indian and Pakistani candidate once the free layer has shown them their gaps. 2,800+ AMC Part 1 questions scoped to the blueprint and to what the exam has actually been asking across 2025 and 2026, every option explained and referenced to eTG, the Red Book and the Immunisation Handbook, with an AMC tip on each question. Three high-yield mock exams, the first one free, and seven month-specific mocks, all 150 questions, timed and forward-only, each returning a topic-by-topic report. Astra, the AI study companion, reads that report and tells you which blocks are still running on NEET- PG or FCPS reflexes, and explains any question until it lands. Flashcards for the screening ages and the immunisation schedule. Clinical case studies for the reasoning. An RMO interview preparation guide for the job that follows, with an interview bot and an AMC clinical bot on the way. And the full IELTS Academic course, with writing marked and speaking assessed, in the same subscription, because Ahpra wants a 7 and you shouldn’t pay a second vendor. USD 39 for one month, 29 a month for three, 19 a month for six, roughly ₹1,600–3,300 or PKR 5,000–11,000 a month against a ₹1.6 lakh / PKR 5.3 lakh resit. Five-day free trial, money-back guarantee, plans end when they end. Hundreds of IMGs, many from India and Pakistan, have passed AMC Part 1 and their English exam with it. Start with the 20 free questions, no account and no card, and see the standard for yourself.
