AMC 1 Resources: Every Free AMC Part 1 Resource Worth Using
By the AMC Recalls team. Updated .
The free AMC Part 1 resources worth using fall into three groups. First, the AMC's own material: its MCQ examination specification and the free MCQ Preparation App. Second, free practice questions, led by the free AMC recall questions on AMC Recalls. Third, the free Australian guidelines that decide the answers on the AMC exam. Together they cover the whole AMC blueprint. Free material leaves two gaps: timed, full-length practice, and Therapeutic Guidelines, the paid reference that drug questions keep coming back to.
The AMC's own free material
Start with the two things the AMC publishes itself, because every other resource should be measured against them.
The MCQ examination specification. This booklet sets out the AMC CAT MCQ blueprint and format: 150 scored questions in 3.5 hours, each with one correct answer from five options, spread across six patient groups. Adult medicine takes 30 percent of the AMC exam and adult surgery 20 percent, and the remaining half goes in equal shares to the other four: women's health, mental health, child health, and population health and ethics. Read it before you choose anything else, because it tells you where the marks are.
The MCQ Preparation App. The AMC built this free app, and it is the only free practice material the AMC puts out. Use it to calibrate: how long the stems are, how much detail they give and how the lead-ins are worded. It is a sample rather than a question bank, so finish it early and move on.
Free practice questions

The AMC Recalls sets are built from the topics candidates report after each sitting. They are aligned with the AMC blueprint, and in format they are similar to the actual AMC questions: one best answer, five options, Australian management. Older sets stay online when a new one goes up, and when AMC recalls come out lists the release date for every sitting to September 2027. AMC recalls explained covers how far recall material can be trusted, and how to answer AMC recall questions shows how to work through a stem. The AMC Academic questions are at amcacademic.com/study and the cases at amcacademic.com/cases.
Free Australian guidelines for the AMC exam, group by group
Many marks on the AMC exam turn on Australian practice: the screening interval, the first-line drug, the reporting rule. These free sources give the Australian answer, group by group.

Free tools worth bookmarking
The Australian cardiovascular disease risk calculator (cvdcheck.org.au). It goes with the 2023 guideline, and the AMC exam expects the Australian risk categories, not the score you used at home.
Austroads Assessing Fitness to Drive. A free PDF with the medical standards for private and commercial drivers, and who has to report.
The catch-up section of the Australian Immunisation Handbook. Catch-up questions for children and adults turn up in child health and in population health.
What free resources can't give you for the AMC exam
Therapeutic Guidelines. First-line drug choices and doses on the AMC exam follow eTG, which is a subscription. Many hospital and university libraries give access, so check yours before you buy. AMC Academic's guide to AMC Part 1 books and study material covers the paid references worth having.
Timed, full-length practice. The AMC MCQ is 150 questions in 3.5 hours, roughly 84 seconds a question, and once you move on you can't return. No free resource reproduces that. Do the free recall sets in timed 30-question blocks, then sit at least two full mocks before your exam week; AMC Academic's month-specific mocks are built for that.
Putting the free resources together
1Read the examination specification and rank the six patient groups by weight.
2Do one free recall set untimed. For every question you miss, find the guideline in the table above and read that section, not the whole document.
3Once you are getting most of a set right untimed, do the next set in timed blocks of 30 questions.
4Work from the newest set back, because the newest sets reflect current guidelines and recent AMC exam topics.
The full method, week by week, is in how to prepare for the AMC MCQ (CAT) exam, and AMC Part 1 high-yield topics shows which topics come back across sittings. If you are budgeting from Pakistan, AMC exam fees in Pakistan puts every fee in rupees.
Frequently asked questions
What are the best free resources for AMC Part 1?
The AMC's MCQ examination specification and its free MCQ Preparation App, the free AMC recall questions on AMC Recalls, and free Australian guidelines: Queensland Clinical Guidelines for obstetrics, the RCH guidelines for children, the Immunisation Handbook and the RACGP Red Book.
Does the AMC give free practice questions?
Yes, through the free MCQ Preparation App it built with eMedici. It shows the style of the AMC exam, but it is a sample, not a full question bank.
Are AMC recalls free?
Yes, on AMC Recalls. Each 2026 sitting has its own free set of 100 recall questions, answered and explained, and no card details are needed.
Is Therapeutic Guidelines free?
No. eTG is a subscription, though many hospital and university libraries provide access.
Where can I find the AMC Part 1 syllabus?
In the AMC's MCQ examination specification. It splits the AMC exam into six patient groups: adult medicine at 30 percent, adult surgery at 20 percent, and the other four (women's, children's and mental health, plus population health and ethics) at one-eighth each.
Can I pass AMC Part 1 using only free resources?
Free resources cover the content. They don't give you full-length timed mocks or eTG's drug choices, so plan to add both in the last two months before the AMC exam.
Which free guideline should I start with?
Begin with three: the Red Book from the RACGP for screening and prevention, the Immunisation Handbook for vaccines, and the Royal Children's Hospital guidelines for paediatrics. Add the others group by group.
