Best AMC MCQ Resources to Pass AMC Part 1 in 2026

The best AMC MCQ resources are the ones that teach Australian management, because that is where the exam is lost. About 47% pass AMC Part 1, and most of the people who fail knew enough medicine. They did not know that bowel screening starts at 45, that low-severity pneumonia gets amoxicillin, or that the paper is forward-only with no negative marking. Four resources cover that gap. Everything else is support.

Tier 1: the four AMC exam resources we recommend

1. The AMC's free MCQ Preparation App

Every candidate with MCQ authorisation gets 210 practice questions written by AMC contributors. It is the closest you will get to the AMC's own voice, and it is free. It is not a study bank or a timed mock, so keep it for the last few weeks as a final check on house style.

2. AMC Academic as your question bank

One bank, built to the blueprint, finished properly. AMC Academic has 2,800+ questions weighted to the six patient groups, every option explained against eTG, the Red Book and the Immunisation Handbook, seven month-specific mocks, three high-yield mocks (the first is free) and IELTS Academic included, from USD 39 a month. Why this one and not eMedici, Amedex or MplusX is in our best AMC MCQ question bank guide and the full 2026 question bank review.

3. The RACGP Red Book

Population health and ethics is 12.5% of the paper, about 19 questions, and most of it is learnable rules: bowel screening from 45, cervical screening from 25 with a five-yearly HPV test, breast screening from 50. It is free, it is pure recall once it sticks, and it is slow to sink in, so start it in your first two weeks and cycle it until the ages and intervals are automatic. Best return per hour on the AMC Part 1 high-yield topics list.

4. Free AMC recalls on AMC Recalls

After every sitting we publish 100 free recall-style questions, rebuilt from the topics candidates report, each with an explanation and a recall tip checked against Australian guidelines. No card, and older sets stay online. Start with the latest set, untimed, and read every explanation; most candidates find their gaps in the first 50 questions. Release dates are published in advance, and the recalls explainer covers which forms of recall material to trust.

Tier 2: supporting AMC study material

  • AMC MCQ Examination Specifications. Free, short, the blueprint and rules. Read it once, early.

  • Australian Immunisation Handbook. Includes the July 2026 switch to a single 21-valent pneumococcal vaccine for adults from 65.

  • eTG or Murtagh's General Practice. One Australian management reference for the roughly 35% of scored items that are management.

  • Good Medical Practice. The basis for consent, capacity and notification questions.

What not to use for the AMC MCQ

  • USMLE and PLAB books for management. Good pathophysiology, wrong answers for Australia, and the AMC uses those answers as distractors. See AMC vs NEET-PG.

  • "Free AMC MCQ past papers" and "AMC handbook PDF" downloads. The AMC has never published its questions. The free handbook PDF is a pirated scan of an old edition.

  • Recall files from group chats. Answer letters, no explanations, nobody has checked them.

  • A second question bank. One of the nine mistakes that cost candidates a resit.

How the four fit together

Monthly cycles: a month of recalls twice, the matching month-specific mock on AMC Academic, same-day gap fixing, a re-check of the recalls, then the next month. The six-step preparation guide and recalls with your question bank lay out the loop. Sit at least three full timed mocks; passing candidates generally score 65% or more at the final rehearsal with no group under 55%, and the mock exams comparison shows which mocks behave like the real paper. Preparation is a small fraction of one AUD 2,920 resit; see the AMC exam fees guide.

Frequently asked questions

What are the best resources for the AMC exam?

The AMC's free preparation app, AMC Academic as a blueprint-weighted question bank, the RACGP Red Book for screening and immunisation, and free AMC recalls after every sitting. Add the MCQ Examination Specifications, the Immunisation Handbook and eTG or Murtagh's as supporting material.

Is there a free AMC MCQ question bank?

The AMC's app gives 210 free questions to candidates with MCQ authorisation. AMC Recalls publishes 100 free explained questions after every sitting, and AMC Academic offers 20 free. None has enough volume to prepare on alone; see the question bank guide.

Which book is best for AMC preparation?

Murtagh's or Therapeutic Guidelines for management, the RACGP Red Book for screening. The AMC Handbook of MCQs helps with style but is too old for current guidelines.
